Kerry Macdonell
Registered Social Worker
(He/They)
Kerry believes as a counsellor in creating a compassionate, non-judgmental, calming space into which clients can bring their authentic selves. He strongly feels that creating this oasis for clients can allow them to make sense of their thoughts, emotions, and sensations that arise from their experiences. Acceptance and change can then result from building this self-awareness.
Kerry studied social work at the University of British Columbia to develop a foundation in understanding how the interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors can affect the trajectories of our lives. They have previously worked as a crisis line staff responder, mental health case manager, and substance use counsellor. They now work as the 2SLGBTQIA+ specialist substance use clinician for the North region of Fraser Health.
He socially locates himself as a Scottish-Jewish non-binary man who is a donor conceived person (DCP). This location he feels offer him a unique perspective in supporting folks from diverse backgrounds by applying an anti-oppressive practice and trauma-informed lens in his counselling work.
In their free time, Kerry enjoys meditation, exercising in nature, running Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, and reading science fiction novels.
