Counselling for Teens

Calm Waters Counselling Collective offers individual counselling to teens ages 14+

What can you talk to a counsellor about?

Whatever you’d like! Counselling is your space to talk about whatever is on your mind. You can talk about anxious thoughts, difficulties in friendships or romantic relationships, feeling like your emotions are a roller coaster you can’t get off of!

Your counsellor won’t push or force you to talk about anything- its what you are comfortable with!

Myth: There has to be something ‘wrong’ in order to go to counselling.

Fact: Nope! Many people go to counselling to gain new perspectives, to improve mental health overall, or to have a non-judgemental space to talk to someone. Also- just because there are anxious thoughts or your emotions feel up and down, doesn’t mean there is something ‘wrong’ with you.

Myth: My counsellor will tell my parents everything I say in session.

Fact: Nope! Your session is confidential and protected under privacy laws. Your counsellor has a legal and ethical responsibility to maintain your privacy.

*There are limits to confidentiality, specifically if you are going to harm yourself or others, if someone is harming you, or if required by law.

What is counselling like?

The first session with the counsellor is usually spent getting to know each other. Your counsellor will ask you questions about what’s brought you to counselling and what your goals are.

During sessions you have the space and time to share about how you’re feeling, get support with any struggles you’re having and learn some helpful skills.

What if I don’t want to talk about how I am feeling?

That’s perfectly okay! Some people come to counselling and are looking to focus more on skill building. Counsellors can teach skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
